Mrs. Matheny,
Maggie (once Fay), continues to be one of the best things in our lives. Merlin
is now almost 12 and Maggie is his eyes and ears. She really looks after him
and has no doubt added time to his life. They romp like puppies through the
house and then when he is tired she curls up next to him. They love going to
our log cabin and playing with us in the woods. We were most surprised to see
both dogs enjoying riding on the kayaks this summer. They sport their life jackets
with pride and look like over-sized hood ornaments on the front of the kayaks.
For some reason, Maggie LOVES to lick a fish if you catch it and is content
to watch it swim away when we release it (we don’t get it). At night,
Maggie sleeps in one of the boys beds until about 5:30 am and then comes to
join us. As the alarm clocks go off in the morning she becomes a flurry of activity
running to get everybody up and greet them enthusiastically. Thank you for your
role in bringing this wonderful dog into our lives.
The boys saved their money last year and each managed to donate $50 at Christmas
time to Second Chance. They hope to raise more with a lemonade stand and savings
this year. They have also talked two families we know into adopting from Second
Chance. They know all of the dogs on your website and frequently check for updates.
We believe very strongly in the hard work Second Chance puts into bringing pets
new homes and meaningful lives. We hope Merlin has plenty of time left with
us, but we recognize his age. It is a great comfort to us knowing there will
eventually be another wonderful dog waiting for us at Second Chance when the
time comes. Thanks again.
