Success Story!

Roxie and Taz

Hello everyone at Second Chance,

I wanted to (finally) let you know how I have been doing with the newest additions to my family. I adopted Roxie from Second Chance in August of 2005, when I fell in love her while visiting my friend Meghann (her foster mom). When I brought her home she was quite timid, particularly around anyone she wasn’t familiar with. After a lot of work and socializing, she has greatly improved, even though she still scares easily at loud sounds, and is still wary of new faces.
After a few months of just Roxie and my cat Molly, I realized that Roxie needed a friend to help with her unending energy and playfulness. I was then introduced to Taz by Meghann (again). Taz had been with the Humane Society and Second Chance for quite a long time, and soon I knew why. Meghann brought him over to meet Roxie and they hit it off well, even though he made short order of peeing on several pieces of furniture. Then, in early December, I ran into Meghann at Petco and she had Taz there. She suggested I take him home for a ‘Play Date.’ Well, I did, and that play date lasted a lot longer than I anticipated, since I didn’t want to give him up. So, Roxie and I decided to keep him. Four months later, and after a large number of vet visits, I finally figured out that he was allergic to corn. Needless to say, the state of my carpet has greatly improved since that momentous occasion. Taz then proceeded to go through 3 remote controls, 5 pairs of sunglasses, an innumerable amount of pens, socks, paper towels, shoes, mail, and a plastic jar of shoe polish. I knew it was love when I never once considered giving him up.
Taz and Roxie are now doing fabulously, and they rarely gang up on my cat Molly, which makes home life quite pleasant, and always interesting. I wanted to thank everyone at Second Chance for the hard work and dedication they showed; particularly Meghann, who was able to unload not one, but two dogs onto me, including her much loved ‘problem child’ Taz. And, I wanted to let everyone out there know that it is well worth the time (and money) to take a chance on those crazy, high energy dogs. Remember that high-energy dogs deserve to be loved too, and they more than make up for the price with love, affection, and endless entertainment! Thanks again, and here are a few pictures of ‘the kids’ to show around to the staff.

Sincerely,

Nicole, Molly, Roxie, and Taz
