Success Story!

Snickers, newest member of the Davis family

Hello there,
Here’s a SNICKERS update.
Over the holidays he was continuing to make progress.
Then, one night he got out of the back door and ran off into the night!
I mean vanished!
Martha and I spent several hours looking for him.
We had no luck!
I felt so guilty.
He was already a bit unsure and now he was all alone somewhere in the night in an area he knew nothing about.
I called the local pound, checked with the neighbors, etc. still NOTHING!
Then after 2 days, Martha was outside and guess who pops up????
There was SNICKERS! A bit thinner, than when I saw him last but, HE WAS HOME!
Here’s the amazing part!
Since he has been home, his potty training has been almost flawless!
He actually will come to the side of my wheelchair, freeze, then back up for me to pick him up to go outside.
If he is in his kennel and needs to go out, he barks….I take him out…..and he does his business.
He is so well behaved it is almost spooky!
He now curls up in a small basket with his blanket and spends most of his time there.
He is eating well, and as far as I am concerned, based on where he was, and where he is now….
He is a success story!
Thanks for everything!

Sandy,
He is doing wonderful.
He is a VERY smart dog.
He responds to one word commands or short phrases now (potty, poop, let’s go night night).
When it’s time to go outside he responds to the sound of my power being turned on to my powered wheelchair.
He associates that chair with going outside.
The let’s go night night phrase is to let him know it’s kennel or “den” time.
He LOVES to curl up in this very small wicker basket with the blanket that Diana sent along in it.
If in fact, it’s really nasty, wet, icy, or snowy outside I have taught him to ride on my foot platform on my powered wheelchair, so he doesn’t get all wet, etc.
He’s eating well.
I taught him to dance for a milk bone.
He is playing more.
Normally n 20-30 minute spurts (running, tumbling, belly flopping, chasing rawhide chews).
Then it’s normally time for a rest.
LOL.
When I took him to the vet, he weighed 12 lbs (which the vet said was perfect size) and all was great!
He is a very much a “one person dog” (consistent with the breed I think) but, is now beginning to be friendly to the rest of the gang (Martha and her children).
He is definitely a part of my life and family!
Thanks for everything.
