Wizard, newest member of the Rose family
Wizard was found as a sick and starving puppy wandering in the woods with a littermate. But fortunately the person who found the two pups turned them over to Columbia Second Chance. Wizard quickly rebounded under the care of Betsy Casteel, his foster mom, and a couple of months later he captured the hearts of his new family.
"My wife and I went to an adoption event just to drop off some supplies for Columbia Second Chance and make a donation," said Simon Rose, Wizard's new dad. "We saw him from the back, asleep in his crate, and we had to wake him up to see him. He turned around and looked at both of us, wagging his tail. Having just lost a dog, we weren't sure we were ready for another, but we decided to take him home for the night. When we got home, he curled up in my wife's lap and that was it, he was a keeper."
Although shy at first, Wizard quickly became king of the household. Now, he spends his days bossing around the neighbor's dog, who is three times his size, and he spends his weekends going for long walks at Grindstone Nature Center. He is a repeat customer of the CSC dog wash fundraisers held throughout the summer at Award Pet Supply, and he also frequently gets his picture taken during the professional pet photo fundraisers put on by Keiser Photography (see Valentine's Day photo, above).
"The thing that's funny
about Wizard is that he's not a morning dog," Rose said. "We have
to wake him up and make him go outside in the mornings, then he goes right back
to bed. He is truly a special little dog and life would not be as much fun without
him. We wouldn't trade him for the world."
