Homer
"I will send photos
at a later date but as for homer, I am sure folks remember him. How could you
forget? He was crazy. He also had that one ear up and one
ear down. His love for everyone make him such an amazing companion. Many
volunteers may remember the trouble Homer nearly got me in. His list of mishaps
include eating all the Christmas decorations, destroying a roommates couch
and a
particular strange phone call I received one evening while I was out. I
received a frantic call from one of my neighbors telling me I had to come home
immediately. I drove as quickly as I could only to be greeted with a front
yard
full of onlookers. Apparently Homer had decided to push through a window screen
and walk out on the roof. Here he was standing there looking down at me. He
was unfazed by the height and the people. I ran upstair and called him. As
if
with not a care in the world, Homer lumbered back into the house. The neighbors
cheered loudly and red faced, I walked Homer back outside where he was loved
on
by all that was present.
Homer has finally passed this stage
in his life and for the most part has become
a well behaved, well adjusted dog. However, occasionally he reminds me that
he
is a dog and eats a shoe or whatever is in his path. As I mentioned in the
last
email, Homer has gotten me through a few rough patching in my life. Roughly
three years ago my wife and I separated. This came as a complete shock to
me.
Many of the volunteers who may remember Homer, probably remember both Stephanie
and myself coming to events and driving around town with Homer hanging out
the
window. Homer was my salvation and made a very rough time in my life bearable.
It took some time but Homer and I have rebound, I have a new and wonderful
job
and just three months ago we moved into a new home. Homer finally has his own
backyard! While he is still an escape artist, he seems to be well behaved
in
his backyard and we haven't had any incidents yet."
