Petey and Buster

"Both Petey (the dachshund) and Buster are doing quite well, and we are so happy to have them as part of our family. I've attached a couple of pictures of the dogs. One is of Petey alone and one with Petey and Buster, our Humane Society rescue dog, so you can see how they are doing.

They went on vacation with us to Michigan for 3 weeks in July. I was so happy that we could take the dogs- I couldn't stand being away from them for that long of a time. The car ride was interesting...Petey rides fine, mostly just sleeps. Buster was tense, but after the 12 hour trip up there, he now isn't so worried about car rides. We spent a lot of time walking along the beach and exploring the wooded paths around the cottage we rented for our vacation. Both dogs were unsure about the lake, although by the end of our vacation, they would go out far enough to get their ankles wet.

Petey has recently decided that he loves to play fetch. Whenever we go out in the yard Petey makes sure he has a toy available for playing fetch. Buster has no interest in fetching and we didn't teach Petey, so it's something he picked up on his own.

Now that the weather has cooled off we are back to our routine of walking at either Rock Bridge Park or on the Forum trail. Both dogs love walking the trails.Later this month Erik and I are going to be taking Petey and Buster for obedience training. Buster has some issues pulling on the leash and we felt it would be best, for consistency, to have all of us trained at the same time, since the training is just as much for us as for the dogs. We didn't want Buster to be trained to follow a certain set of rules that Petey wouldn't understand.

Petey is quite a little character and definitely brightens every day in our household. He had even won over our 14 year old cat. Every morning after Petey gets out of his crate for the night he runs to find her and they play for awhile. If he doesn't find her, she goes looking for him. It's very cute!"
