Volunteer at Second Chance

Second Chance would not exist if it were not for our wonderful volunteers. You will find them at any given time playing vital roles in every aspect of the organization, including animal care, fostering, fundraising, working adoption events, and taking care of all of the needs of our furry friends. If you love animals and have the time and energy to give, please consider helping out. If interested, please attend our next required orientation (dates can be found on our calendar or Facebook) or email us at operations@columbia2ndchance.org.

Volunteer Opportunities at Columbia Second Chance

  • First Step: Attend Orientation

First step in volunteering with us is attending an orientation. These are scheduled monthly at the Adoption Center in Boonville (24687 Highway 179). Orientation will provide  more information about how to get involved in various volunteer activities.

Please use the link below to sign up if you're planning to attend. We look forward to meeting you!

  • Foster an Animal

Our foster homes are the backbone of our organization. We are looking for foster homes for dogs, cats, kittens and puppies. We work with you to make sure you take a foster that fits in your home situation. We provide the food and vet care – you provide the love! Visit our Foster Page to learn more about fostering a pet!

  • Work With Cats

We need volunteers who can either go regularly (one day a week for about two hours) or occasionally (flexibly as your schedule permits) to visit cats in our adoption center about a 10 minute drive from Columbia. Weekly visitors are paired with another volunteer to feed and care for the cats.

  • Work in Our Adoption Center

Our Adoption Center is open Saturday and Sunday. We are always looking for friendly folks who can greet visitors and care for dogs who are there to be seen. It’s a great way to get to know other volunteers and our adoptable animals.

  • Work at an Off-Site Adoption Event

In addition to our Adoption Center, we often have adoption events at other locations throughout the area. Check out our schedule to see where we’ll be next.

  • Take Pictures of Adoptable Animals

Do you have a digital camera and an eye for good photography? Excellent photos make for very fast adoptions! We are always looking for good photos of our animals to help tell their stories.

  • Office Help

We always need help with computer database work as well as record input work. After some training, this can be done from your home instead of the Adoption Center.

  • Education Ambassador

Want to teach others about the state of animal welfare in our community and what Second Chance is doing to help reduce the population of unwanted pets? Join our education team and help us spread the word about the work we do and the work others can do to solve the problem.
